Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari is a Japanese language web novel. The Japanese novel has been penned down by ANEKO Yusagi and the illustration has been done by Minami Seira. The novel falls under the genres of adventure, action, harem, drama and fantasy.The adventure novel tells the story of Naofumi who is among the four heroes who are called and sent to a kingdom called Melromarc. This kingdom experiences “waves of catastrophe” that damage the land and create a lot of trouble for the residents of the kingdom as well. In the action novel, all the four heroes have a sword, a spear, a bow and shield. These arms are provided to them to fight against these waves.However, it is Naofumi of all the four heroes who becomes the shield hero. This means that his only arms are a shield. As a result of this, he is insulted and made fun of not just by the people of Melromarc but also by his fellow heroes. In the harem novel, all the heroes along with arms are also provided with a person to train with.No one wants to train with Naofumi except for one person called Malty Melromarc. However, even she turns out to be a traitor. Not only does she betray him, she also lays false accusations on him that he took advantage of her.At this point in the fantasy novel, everyone hates Naofumi, the shield hero, however he does not let this bring him down. Instead he channels his anger, resentment and disappointment in his training.
